farewell to all these daily illusions
\nnever forget that autumn malfunction
\nquiet, cryptic, and revealing
\nas the sun, the moon, and the stars
\nmaintain this maniacal marriage
\nof heaven and earth<\/p>\n

red sounds roam
\nand these days the sunset
\nnever seems far off
\nwinter whistles a brittle song
\nbut nobody listens anymore
\nwalking in slow motion
\nwe wager tiny chips of destiny
\nas bad habits
\ncontinue to purge
\nour waning souls<\/p>\n

logged in and tuned out
\nlocal gods remember
\nrippled rhythms
\nwhispering silver songs
\nsoft and simple
\nsitting here in dynamic slavery
\nlost, and slightly out of sync
\nwe send calculated signals
\nhoping for the faintest response<\/p>\n

iridescent questions under lamplight
\nwith quiet art
\nand virtual reflections
\nwe are read and misled
\nby a glazed and digital friend<\/p>\n

i’m seeking a lit existence
\nsomething a little unusual
\nin this specious reality
\nbecause most nights
\nit’s just too easy
\nto become bored and drunk<\/p>\n

hypnotized by capitol decay
\nthe heart has this sort of
\ntemporal disfunction
\nand in this docile haze
\nlife feels like
\na fractured form of fiction
\nwaiting to be pieced together<\/p>\n

reckless and rigid
\nwe pray for reasons and recovery
\nwe pray for delicate rules
\nand concrete essentials<\/p>\n

the hope is
\nthat poetry will purge
\nthese fragile and fatigued ideas
\nbut try as i might
\ni just can’t type
\nanother virtual reprieve<\/p>\n

tired and managed carefully
\nwith a familiar misfortune
\ni sit and pretend to dream
\nsilently awaiting
\nthe next stray theme<\/p>\n
