\nwe sit in bars or at home
\ngetting drunk and stupid on
\noverpriced liquor and
\nreality television
\nwaiting in vain for
\na well timed escape
\ndepression doesn’t hit those
\nthat are down and out
\nthe bums, ramblers, and gamblers
\nwhen you have nothing to lose
\nyou have nothing to worry about
\nno, depression grabs the average man
\nthe soft hearted
\ncomfortable and safe
\nin modern illusions
\nbut slowly
\ntrivialities pile up
\ncreeping, crawling
\ninto consciousness
\nand eventually
\nthey seep out, because you are
\na little older
\na little slower
\nround and tired
\nand the moment is shorter
\nsome men are just better at failure than others
\nalways wanting more they stop caring
\nabout wars, money, music, sex
\ndiets, the price of gas, elections
\ntyranny, television, love, odd jobs
\nthe children, the elderly, mortgages
\nsunshine, roads, movies, grey hairs
\nalcohol, independence, bonfires
\nlaws, exercise, birthdays, wrinkles
\ncapitalism, fascism, socialism,
\nlate night walks, cars, food, and friends
\nthings fade sometimes
\nthat’s just the way of it
\nonly to come back unexpectedly
\nit’s a continual condition
\nbut the writing
\nthe writing will always matter<\/p>\n

\nfate flies in fear of the moment
\nso don’t let that fire burn too hot
\nfeed it slow
\nstop, let go
\ngimme a new setting
\ndangerous and unfamiliar
\nstep back, watch
\nand don’t try too hard
\nin one membrane and out the other
\ndon’t be profound or try to impress
\njust be honest because
\nwords flow best unhindered by
\ndull realities
\nconsumed in a furious whirlwind
\nof worth-less experiences
\nshovel those words into the computer
\nthen wait, revisit and revise
\ndissect and rebuild
\nlet destruction birth something new
\nlisten to the critics, then fuck them
\nbe crude and just a little bit obscene
\nshock them into curiosity and submission
\nmake them want more
\ncause let’s face it
\nwe ain’t in this game to make money
\nno fame here
\nno signs or immortality
\nwriting for everyone
\nand writing for no one
\nlooking for
\ncreativity
\nand slight admiration
\nkilling off the boredom
\nto shape a better day<\/p>\n
