winter slows the blood
\nand the dreams of spring are all we have left
\nit’s been awhile, something to note
\nwith chinese food and stale beer
\nlying on bent backs and broken beds
\nthe american dream is dead and forgotten<\/p>\n
maybe i should get out more
\ni’m already anticipating
\na night of wandering this 30 year prison
\nof reading and sleeping
\nalone
\nand i think i’ve
\nfigured it out
\nit’s all these electronics
\ndistractions
\ntechnical evaporation
\nand not enough time outside
\nat the point where
\ndaggers fall like like
\nso many unused tears
\nFriday is just another day
\nand I want to retreat, because
\nmisery is a mistress
\nheld in a bipolar cadence
\nembraced and shunned all at once<\/p>\n
i stole a few lines today
\nfrom something written in haste
\nback when it mattered
\nand it makes more sense now
\ni know i’ll never make it
\nto a full one hundred
\nit’s just not whole
\nand still unbound
\ni can’t own new things
\nbecause i’m always
\na day late
\nand a dollar short
\nstatic, but not fixed
\nlike a point in the distance
\nhalf remembered
\nand slowly eaten<\/p>\n
the eyes are softened
\nwith an identity
\nthat’s changing again
\nmerged
\nall bits and pieces
\nforcefully fit together
\nconversations lose their luster
\nwhen you’re not “the one”
\nbut apathy and acceptance have
\ncured me of these compulsions
\nand left me wondering what’s next<\/p>\n
it seems i’ve loosed all manner
\nof hells, and still i
\ncalibrate and calculate
\nwell meaning intentions,
\npretensions
\nwith a mind towards the self
\ni’ve flipped the coin on both sides
\nand come up short
\noh karma
\nyou beautiful bastard
\nteach me the trick
\nof retribution and evolution
\nin balance
\ni think it’s time to quit this game
\nand make a new one up
