i had a dream
\nbut it was a lie
\noccupy, mystify, and clarify
\nwatching the passion
\nof a sharp tongue
\nround the edges clean
\nas green seas and electric trees
\nreveal the flawed movements
\nof our impossible devotion<\/p>\n

often we feel alone
\nwhen we’re not really alone
\nwriting a loose rhyme
\nin empty time
\ncaptive to cats
\nand passing cars
\nthe meaning of silence
\nis crystal clear<\/p>\n

chewing berries and thorns
\non long grey-green vines
\nignoring patterns of loss
\nwith beautiful and short vision
\ni’m tired of brief love
\nburned by cancer eyes<\/p>\n

something borrowed and something lost
\nare we all just hypnotized,
\nchasing clowns
\nand glorious casino creatures
\nas rebels and soft hippies
\nlinger at the backdoor<\/p>\n

waiting for a polite rapture
\nas death draws down
\nready for a sequence of words
\nspit from a hungry king
\nand embraced by our
\nmuted criminal comforts
\nwe can no longer hide behind
\nmissed opportunities
\nof the dawn’s mechanical memory<\/p>\n

with frost folded
\nupon furrowed brows
\nwinter is made for depression
\nit’s stagnation without surrender
\nso tell me
\nwhat’s the point
\nof all this pointlessness?<\/p>\n

late and staring at the outline
\nof passing stars
\nwe reap stationary days
\nand forsake midnight meditations
\nbecause the light at night
\nis almost right
\nso grant me a heavy sleep
\nthat burns away lifetimes
\nof illusion and consequence<\/p>\n

lazy devils laugh
\nas dangerous angels observe
\nfrom a distance
\nmissing words
\nthat spell resistance<\/p>\n

never a schemer
\nalways a dreamer
\nthe moon reveals
\nthe page of swords
\nin it’s domesticated reflection
\nyet short heroes and proud beasts
\nseem so strange
\namused and ambushed
\nbehind all this delicate hysteria<\/p>\n
