six years and counting
\nit’s a trick of the mind
\nto scratch and scrape
\nthrough slow time
\nwith short sight
\nit’s always an empty fight
\nso forget this caustic crime
\nas we embrace a shifting paradigm
\nstranded and left to reveal
\nhearts wasted
\nin the moments we steal<\/p>\n

despite popular opinion
\npoetry is not for humans
\nwith soft hearts
\nit is for men (and women)
\nwho are tired of the cold game<\/p>\n

on a good day
\nwe discard holy bottle caps
\nand spill glasses of red emotion
\nupon quiet and empty floors
\nas fate falls
\non forest fires
\nof fantastic fatality<\/p>\n

thumbs up
\nor
\nthumbs down
\neither way
\nmiddle fingers are
\nraised high
\nas we declassify
\nthis alien sign<\/p>\n

it is now a fragmented frequency
\nheld in predictable delinquency
\nas sidewalks stretch
\ntoward starving seduction
\nand in these vacuous evenings
\nwe sit with eyes glazed
\nand pens slanted
\ntowards second sight
\nin the dim light
\nof this absent illness
\nfor there is little imagination
\nleft in this shadowy flight<\/p>\n

burning the nose
\nto keep me on my toes
\npretending to structure
\na silent and heavy prose
\nwhile dreaming of
\nadventures and decadent hoes<\/p>\n

i wish this fevered desire
\ncould produce
\nsomething beyond
\na temporary exclamation<\/p>\n

as labored love stories
\nare torn apart at the seams
\nand the omission of
\nmachine-gun moonbeams
\nlure me towards
\npossessive
\nand obsessive dreams<\/p>\n

overpower and devour
\nthis communication
\nthat is stiff and sour
\ncarried on contested currents
\nin the shadow of silent flowers<\/p>\n

i’m drinking gluten free beer
\nand pretending that tomorrow
\nis just another excuse
\nfor standard living<\/p>\n

it’s a wrong turn
\non the right path
\nwired and writing
\nabstract math
\nas careless cats
\ncaress in playful harmony<\/p>\n

i love the sound of ghostly pianos
\non a strange northeastern night
\ntrying to recall
\nthe number of heaven
\nas i swallow soft bursts
\nof generic smoke
\nembracing the magic
\nof literary humanity
\nwords remember words
\nin this drowsy moment of insanity
\nwaiting to release us
\nfrom our perpetual
\nand nervous profanity<\/p>\n

it’s hump day
\nand eleven eleven
\nso make a wish and pray
\nthat the stars align
\nand distant minds disobey
\nembracing cryptic foreplay
\nof an ancient screenplay
\nbecause 2020 has been
\none hell of a year<\/p>\n
