<\/p>\n

the first line should always be the best
\nbut today
\nthere is no victory
\nit’s just a simple celebration
\nof nothing special
\nscratching two pennies
\nface down
\na hero in decline
\ncats in the window
\nand a white, gutless sun
\nwhat’s left for those of us
\nthat seek answers in the ether?<\/p>\n

i’ve come to the conclusion that
\ni was born two decades too late
\ni should have wandered
\ntechnically inadequate streets
\nwith a backpack, a notebook, and a gun
\nwriting poems with a knife sharpened pencil<\/p>\n

what happened to the sixties?
\nretired beatniks, and idealistic hippies?
\nwhat happened to road beers and free love?
\nreleased in a mindscape of (r)evolution
\nwhat happened to the spirit
\nof the cosmic individual,
\nconnected through divine craftsmanship
\nto the collective movement of peace?
\nwhat happened to good LSD and bad hair?
\nswinging blues, and dirty guitars
\ni miss war protests and sticking it to the man<\/p>\n

the arcade was replaced by home consoles
\nand roller rinks are a fading memory
\nour youthful and innocuous gangs have disbanded
\nbut i still remember leather jackets and cheap cigars
\nskipping school, and riding bicycles into infinity<\/p>\n

technology has invaded our minds
\nsocial media is a trap
\nhow is it we are so connected yet so divided?
\nhow do we have all this information at our fingertips
\nyet remain so ignorant?
\nwhy have we let slavery change shape and take hold?
\nwired networks and wireless consciousness
\nwish to rule roads
\nof ancient runes
\nand immortals hold no sway<\/p>\n

do you remember how the gods painted the sky
\nwith the fire of a phoenix sunrise?
\ndo you remember your first kiss
\nthe terror and ecstasy?
\nsilent currents carry us over
\ngalaxies of complex emotion
\nas lost music drives our devotion
\ntowards divine islands of clouded glass<\/p>\n

this is gonna be an unreleased kind of night
\nthe beer just isn’t kicking in
\nand my streak has ended
\nit’s time to retire for awhile
\ntime to..be alone,
\nto gather magic
\nand deposit energy
\nin all the right places
\nthe world isn’t headed in the right direction
\nare you?
\ni’m not, though sometimes i think i am<\/p>\n

imagination is the design
\nof chaos undiscovered
\ncolor defines nothing
\nuntil mixed with consequence
\nto create fantastic cascades
\nof nervous
\nand complex emotion
\nwords, when settled in confusion mean little
\nbut, when arranged in a deranged fashion
\nare given power
\nand the devil is always in the details
\nart is ritual
\nritual is creation
\nand creation of is life
\nsoft rhythms, no poetry tonight please
\nreinvent the spell
\nand arrange the stars
\nto suit your destiny<\/p>\n
