I
\npurpose and performance
\nready for
\ndisbelief
\nand some of this
\nmagik
\nis lost
\nlost in
\na waiting withdrawal
\nas knives are raised to the sky
\nand voices cry out for more
\nbut receive less<\/p>\n

the pink-orange fire
\nof a perfect morning melody
\ncreeps toward the horizon
\nbut it too is lost
\nlost to coming of rain
\nunder hours of stale passion<\/p>\n

slowly we shift the soul
\nand crucify
\nthis callous
\nand camouflaged culture
\nas nicotine warriors
\nremember fallen friends
\nand another chance at love dies<\/p>\n

II
\nforgetting to ask the question
\nfear ravages the brain
\nand our broken and immortal songs
\ndrift like dry leaves
\nat the end
\nof october’s revelation<\/p>\n

so embrace the birth
\nof another green death
\nfire the guns at midnight,
\nwe refuse to wait
\nfor 3 am to arrive
\ntired
\nwe build
\nlonely monuments
\nto moments of
\necstasy and despair
\nand compare
\ncards stolen
\nfrom a sorry game of solitaire<\/p>\n

summer’s ransom is spent
\nburned in random patterns
\nand illusions are always beautiful
\nin their last hours
\nbut slowly we swallow
\ndisaster
\nand quietly agree
\nto romanticize
\nthese enduring obscenities<\/p>\n

III
\nfocus without depression
\nriding on some pale form of
\nrapacious release
\nluck is blurred
\nand blind reason
\ndeletes this
\nfeeble emptiness
\ntill temptation
\nrescues us
\nfrom awkward anticipation<\/p>\n

the spell is almost over
\nriding a radiant radio sky
\nwe accelerate toward a
\nfinal, fallen star
\nand cry
\nbreaking yesterday’s mystery
\ninto coherent pieces
\nthat we can carry
\nin pockets of private poetry<\/p>\n

when the world finally ends
\nwill you be naked
\nand ready
\nto light the ashes on fire?<\/p>\n
