crescent moon
\ndo you still trust the sun
\ntradition, transition
\nfutile ignition
\nwhat have you got?<\/p>\n

chipped teeth
\nand fallen ashes
\nfree like fatal females
\nfound on futuristic freeways<\/p>\n

and by the light of black candles
\nsaturday nights are sacrificed with
\nwine, bad horror movies,
\ndigital music, and wild sex<\/p>\n

i’m waiting for a serpent tongue
\nkill me in the name of
\nart, like childhood dreams
\ndashed against the rocks of servility<\/p>\n

what happened to hairspray,
\nroller skates, and rock n roll
\nthe best remember
\nblack and white television sets
\nand record players raving in reverse<\/p>\n

fast turtles
\nand slow sneakers
\nfollow the piano
\ndown the street
\nas winter losers drain green beer
\nand play cribbage
\nwith west-side women
\nholding two dollars and ten cigarettes<\/p>\n

burn the incense
\nand strip the sheets
\nof this pathological parade
\nthe fingers are cold
\nreaching for delicate, tattooed skin
\nand like thirteen thieves
\nseeking some measure of
\ntactile mastery
\nwe conceal,
\nand eventually heal
\nthese bizarre mythologies<\/p>\n

could you accommodate this
\ngrey comfort, laced with
\nblood poetry, and white death
\nfrom the stem of a hostel flower
\ni crave the fiction of science
\nand the ritual of obscene gestures<\/p>\n

no submission
\npray for midnight bonfires
\nand serial savages
\ndancing with insects
\nto the rhythm of distilled creation
\nin time may we appease
\nthis conflicting syllabus<\/p>\n
