remember the corkscrew
\nbroken and almost perfect
\nhave i told you
\nhow this black mouse
\nwith a red eye
\nnavigates infinite possibility?<\/p>\n

waiting with a bearded buddha
\ni gaze upon
\ngreen feline guardians,
\na pharaoh’s feather,
\nand wine bottles around the globe!<\/p>\n

bukowski slurs
\nmean, on the big screen
\nas domestic beasts
\nfight in a red arcade
\nscattered glances
\nand i’m charmed by
\na noble cat
\ncurled in a sideways box<\/p>\n

absence of the dragon
\ni’m surrounded by
\nsamurai swords
\nand a sleeping dog
\nand i want to renew
\nall these expired candles
\nburned low from
\nnights of tragedy<\/p>\n

lighters on a littered table-top
\nand an organic ashtray
\nis washed away
\nby another listless day
\nat least i have
\nfirm pillows and warm feet
\non the wall
\na dangerous mirror
\nreflects
\na hungry smile
\nand at this moment
\neternity seems so fitting<\/p>\n

do you hear the approaching drone
\nor the dying woman
\ndancing in rhythmic bliss
\nstop
\nchange the characters
\nwe are
\ntoo old to quit
\nand too young to die<\/p>\n

possessed and
\nwriting in the dark
\ni see trashcan parties
\nand misfits with rusty guns
\npenning premature revolution<\/p>\n

the evening continues to creep
\nas the intoxication of sleep
\napproaches
\nand this evening has been
\nstrange
\nand short lived<\/p>\n

before i depart
\nlet me remind you
\nthat dreams are
\nfertile chaos
\nlost within
\nsidewalk hotel fantasies
\nand soon that silver box
\nwill come calling<\/p>\n
