moon-day morning
\nand the crickets gesture
\nquietly towards an azure sky
\non mornings like this
\ni often forget my words
\nlost on surface thoughts
\npenetrating a steamy bedroom window
\ni’m tired and spread thin
\nshould i flip the switch
\non this random euphoria
\nand wait for a clearer head?<\/p>\n

one more cup of coffee
\nand the blackest mornings are always white
\none more cigarette
\nbefore fate sells me
\nanother fair weather fallacy<\/p>\n

scrupulous satellites
\nhave replaced
\nshimmering angels
\nand snowstorms are no longer fun<\/p>\n

rounded off
\nwith radar gun love
\nwe want to touch
\nand then to feel
\nwe want somehow
\nto be real
\nyet we are
\nshaded and sober
\nforgotten
\nlike a glass clown
\non elderly bookshelf<\/p>\n

hard men are now soft
\nand winter words
\nthreaten us
\nwith eternal sleep<\/p>\n

sharpen your wit
\non stone hearts
\nsurrender to
\nmagnetic meditation
\nand muted medication
\nart follows soul
\nand soul falls to science
\nso, flick the switchblade
\nand remember
\nto carry a song in your pocket<\/p>\n

walking on slippery roads
\nit’s easy to forget how to laugh
\nsometimes all i can do
\nis scribble lost notes
\non digital platforms
\nand sometimes randoms thoughts
\nare all that keep me going<\/p>\n

tongues clash with vacant minds
\nand serpentine eyes sever salty sheets
\nretreat into that childhood abyss<\/p>\n

life isn’t bad
\nit’s just
\nlong
\nand sometimes
\nlonely
\nso, give me a silver blade
\nto carve out a safety pin soul<\/p>\n

forty-two years
\nincomplete and waiting
\nevery sunrise sets a new standard
\nas the fiery gaze
\nof that oldest of gods
\ncreeps over the horizon
\nsetting his utilitarian gaze on my front door
\nto save me from my own tainted reflection
\nand remind me i\u2019m still alive
\nit’s not easy to write perfection
\nand it’s even harder to keep it<\/p>\n
