september blue
\nshort of breath
\nslowly dying
\nand
\nwondering if they really care?<\/p>\n

some of us live on luck
\nbut most of us
\non routine<\/p>\n

sleep,
\nconsume,
\nrepent,
\nexhale,
\nand repeat<\/p>\n

driving down the same dirty roads
\nas crystalline steeples
\npierce the somber veil
\nof nascent tomorrows
\nelephant eyes
\nweep for the wanderer<\/p>\n

life is strange, beautiful
\nand wrapped in witchcraft
\nyet some days
\nall i see
\nis motor oil
\nsmeared against a reluctant sky<\/p>\n

i’ve learned to channel both
\nluck and routine
\nevery morning when i sit
\nat this uncomplicated machine
\nlike clockwork
\ni am visited
\nby my black and white kitten
\nshe is the routine
\nit’s good to have a constant<\/p>\n

luck comes in other forms
\nlike the flash of an immortal phrase
\ninconvenient and
\nimprinted on a primate brain,
\nlooking down in defeat
\nand finding a forgotten quarter
\nheads up, and shining like the sun,
\nor a unexpected text message
\nfrom a beautiful girl<\/p>\n

black cats,
\nthin cheap wines,
\nand totem poles of the earth
\nerratic and untrained
\nwe’re all just
\ngeneric action figures
\nframed and fermented
\nin some fucked up playhouse<\/p>\n

writing helps, but
\ni’ve come to accept
\nthat not all poems
\nare good
\nsometimes
\nit’s just one more
\nto file away
\nbecause
\nlet’s face it
\nwe can’t be
\nsuperstars
\nall the time<\/p>\n
