\nno thrills
\njust one simple moment
\nto fill
\nor kill
\nthe emptiness
\neating at your soul
\nit’s a hungry escape
\nwith dry seconds
\nthat shake like
\noctober leaves<\/p>\n

sometimes you just gotta make it
\nstanding in the rain
\nwith an absent curse
\nas we remember nothing
\nand hang routines
\non a rusty nail<\/p>\n

sometimes you just gotta make it
\nas you, rend wisdom
\nand descend into a
\nmore stylish form of chaos<\/p>\n

sling empty words
\nwith memorable zeal
\nbecause
\nthe mouse is too slow for the cat
\nthe cat is too small for the dog
\nand we are too stale
\nfor the lead palaces of modern humanity<\/p>\n

sometimes you just gotta make it
\nbecause the night is young
\nand you are old
\nas these hands are sliced open
\nand spill rapid letters
\nin the form of human poetry<\/p>\n

sometimes you just gotta make it
\nbecause the crazy never fails to disappoint
\non and on, as electric ghosts dream of
\nfinding that one golden sentence<\/p>\n

sometimes you just gotta make it
\nwhen you’re half admired
\nand nearly expired
\nas you endeavor
\nto embrace all this excess
\nand remember younger years<\/p>\n

suddenly everything is stopped
\nnot dead, just paused
\non a plane of velvet oblivion
\npatterns become particle pacemakers
\ntwisted along a landscape
\ntoo expeditious to measure
\nwhat is it that defines, and divides us?
\nas we drip, and strip
\ndown another naked and innocent reality
\nand tired habits
\ncreep towards the bottom line<\/p>\n

sometimes you just gotta make it
\nto forget inflation
\nand the distorted meaning of time
\nas we open windows to breathe
\na half-hearted and holy rhyme<\/p>\n

sometimes you just gotta make it
\nbecause the beer can is empty,
\nthe bed isn’t made
\nand life is short<\/p>\n

the lighters are raised high
\nin an impassive salute
\nand
\nsometimes you just gotta make it
\nbecause
\nyou just gotta make it<\/p>\n
