\nall the dogs of hell
\nwould laugh
\nin the face of
\nthis stuttering doom<\/p>\n

were that we were alive
\ntruckers and factory workers
\nwould claim fame
\nin the prophecy of
\na never-ending tomorrow<\/p>\n

were that we were alive
\nthe monks and maidens
\nwould dance madly
\nin the throes of forgotten passion
\nfalling to a floor of black flowers<\/p>\n

were that we were alive
\nwe wouldn’t be strangers
\nin the face of
\nsymbolically drunk
\nconnections<\/p>\n

backwards and forwards
\nwe would chant secret verses
\ninto a tumescent night
\nsummoning love
\nand an infinite initiation
\nof macabre intoxication<\/p>\n

were that we were alive
\npoliticians, media whores, and racist mongrels
\nwould throw themselves
\ninto angry volcanoes
\nto appease the gods of diversity<\/p>\n

were that we were alive
\nnationalism would be discarded
\nand the death of the state
\nwould become a grand holiday<\/p>\n

were that we were alive
\nwar would be just
\nan outdated and discredited fable
\nrendered inert and
\nremembered with remorse<\/p>\n

were that we were alive
\ncurses would become blessing
\nand the great hidden churches of old
\nwould rise to rival an unforgiving sun<\/p>\n

wandering burnt and dry mornings
\nwe are listening to echoes
\nfrom the future
\nand seeking to renew
\nthe dreams that fools
\nwish to discontinue<\/p>\n

were that we were alive
\ntime would have little meaning
\nas we sit on the slopes
\nof another grey morning
\nsometimes moving
\nto the cadence of blips and beeps
\nand silently creeping
\nunder the belly of another caffeinated creature
\nslithering along an uncertain shore
\nwondering
\nwhat chaos does he have in store
\nfor the blindfolded masses?<\/p>\n
