<\/p>\n

i’m certain some of you
\nmust think me quite mad
\nor at least, a bit odd
\nthis middle aged man
\nwho fancies himself, something of a poet
\nliving in a hovel
\noccupied by so many cats<\/p>\n

but for those of you who don’t know
\ncats are the apex of
\nphysical and spiritual evolution
\nthey are divine incarnations
\nsent to embody the forgotten
\nessence of the gods<\/p>\n

cats don\u2019t have owners
\nthey have caretakers,
\nunpaid staff if you will<\/p>\n

have you ever observed a feline
\nsitting supine, not a care in the world
\nthey wait for you to indulge their favor
\ncan you do anything other than
\nreach out and stroke their supple form?<\/p>\n

cats are
\nmajestic and unruly
\nclever beasts
\ntiny yet fearless
\nwith light paws
\nthat tread surreptitiously
\nmeasured in chaotic prose
\ncurious, carnivorous and not so quiet
\nwith uneven calibrations,
\na carefree caliber,
\nand cacophonous intent
\nsee how they stretch and jump
\ninviting instant surprise<\/p>\n

have you ever watched as
\nthese magnificent beasts
\nstrut in a lithe fashion
\nacross any surface
\ntheir movements graceful, relaxed
\npoetry in motion<\/p>\n

soft
\nsilly
\nsadistic
\nand sacred
\ncats are hypnotic
\na distraction of the highest order<\/p>\n

black cat, guardian of tomorrow
\nan eternal silhouette
\nwhite cat lazy and so dignified
\na symbol of ageless contrast
\ngold cat, burning like an elder sun<\/p>\n

cats are anarchists,
\nindividual entities
\nwith the cosmic presence of
\ncelestial perfection
\nknowing nor seeking any master
\nthey are fierce and independent
\nand they run the show<\/p>\n

i thank the gods for my cats
\nall four, each so unique,
\nand so fascinating
\nsometimes i just sit and watch them
\nhow they play, and entertain themselves
\nhow they interact with one another<\/p>\n

immutable companions
\ncats grant a love that’s unconditional
\nwhen i\u2019m sitting at my desk
\nunable to produce anything worthwhile
\nthey come to rescue me
\nclimbing in my lap
\nrubbing against my hand, purring
\ntheir measured lullaby<\/p>\n

living in a state of leisure
\nwith slow movements like
\nhalf-dead heartbeats
\ncats imitate and initiate
\nmagic unintentionally
\nas they prance and dance about<\/p>\n

if you’re ever having a bad day
\ntake a moment and observe a cat
\nform and function merging
\nto meet at the center of tranquility
\nglance into their eyes
\nand you’ll find yourself spellbound
\nin a moment of calm captivation
\nlifted from whatever
\ntroubles you may have been mired in
\nwhat other creature can accomplish this feat
\nand do it with such ease?<\/p>\n

i’ll tell you this,
\nif there’s one thing i’ve learned
\nover these many years
\nit’s that living with cats
\nis the secret to a long and happy life<\/p>\n
