thank the gods for this
\ndull sunrise
\nas we
\ngive in to the morning
\nand commence these
\noblique rituals<\/p>\n

in majestic resonance
\nthe separate limbs of strangers
\nreach and touch
\none up
\nor
\none down<\/p>\n

we speak sex,
\nand the art of
\ntactile communication
\nas poems in exile
\ngreedy and grey green,
\nare whitewashed by winter
\nand cast in a
\nslippery spell<\/p>\n

fire, fire, fire
\nthe half hands are idle
\nas the crows call
\nfor uninterrupted sleep
\nand monsters hold court
\nwith superficial salesmen<\/p>\n

one forgotten glass
\nspilled wine
\nremembering the old ways
\nand longing for better days<\/p>\n

thank the gods for this
\nblack tongue
\nand for all the crazy women<\/p>\n

is it curiosity,
\nor ceaseless entropy
\nthat drives us towards
\nthis predetermined destination?<\/p>\n

out of control
\nand fueled by
\ntomorrow\u2019s fears
\nwe play the game
\none last time
\nas dusty statues fall<\/p>\n

spotlight, and the specter of rain
\nas laughter lingers in the distance
\na lone ranger
\nwanders from lamp post
\nto stone steps
\nchilled by
\nthe winds of a
\nnew england night<\/p>\n

dreaming in reverse
\nas outcomes dictate actions
\nit\u2019s the beginning of the end
\nof a new beginning<\/p>\n

one voice turned
\nanother lesson learned
\na new year perhaps
\nbut some things
\nnever change<\/p>\n

the final prayer
\nis just a song
\nmeant to usher us once more
\ninto the night lands<\/p>\n
