we embrace the
\nslow breath of renewal
\nas the pianos and guitars sing with
\nflashy currents
\nand the poet drones with prayers
\nto the newly elected dead<\/p>\n

birds wait for faint signs of
\nvitality
\nand the night waits for
\nhuman souls
\nseeking something unfamiliar<\/p>\n

this blank page of nature
\nis an orchestra of simplicity and agony<\/p>\n

unknown boys will scratch and scrape
\nfor cheap beer
\nand giddy girls will
\npaint themselves for faded glories
\nsex will be used as a
\nsacramental symbol
\nas the festivals of death commence
\neach begun with an individual obscenity
\nfires display faces
\nfabricated in a finite
\nfacsimile<\/p>\n

renounced children
\nembrace the mysteries of samhain
\nas tattoos are stamped
\nupon exiled tombstones<\/p>\n

each drive
\nno matter how short
\nis long
\nwith music
\nand shattered memories<\/p>\n

opportunities arise
\nwith short and tidal
\nwaves of excitement
\ncooperative and enlisted in an
\nunhealthy mind
\nand
\ntoday is no day
\nfor perfection<\/p>\n

self abuse, mixed with
\nsex and something new
\ni have a cup of black coffee
\nand two bottles of wine
\nand i\u2019m
\nwaiting patiently for
\nobtuse patterns
\nof damnable recognition<\/p>\n

procrastination
\nlingers in
\nconsternation
\nand i have
\nplans to remember
\nand then
\nquietly dismember
\ngods grant me
\nvision that isn\u2019t blurred
\nby the sting of familiarity<\/p>\n

derelict and drifting
\nthrough empty houses
\nwe are always
\ndimed out and never on time
\nconstantly sipping wine
\nliving a life
\nunrefined
\ndrifting about
\nsome hide
\nwhile others are denied<\/p>\n

competition
\nrestructuring
\nit all has to be
\nso perfect, so precise
\nthe placement, the patterns
\nyet chaos is key<\/p>\n

tonight is my favorite night
\nstepping to a stuttered guitar
\nand a phasing drum beat
\nwith unrepentant bonfires
\nand awkward dances
\nit\u2019s halloween for hippies
\nand nothing is the same anymore<\/p>\n
