the name was
\nreluctantly removed
\nwith shock and abstinence
\nsold to another vagrant vendor
\nand leaving me to wonder<\/p>\n

it\u2019s quiet here
\nin small rooms that smell of
\nold sweat and stale smoke
\nno more dissident nights
\nfiled recklessly
\nand filled with
\nabsent minded
\nwine ecstasies
\npenetrated and revived
\nten times over<\/p>\n

half sleep or no sleep
\nas evening calls
\nbaiting and waiting
\nfor songs written
\nby a chaotic healer<\/p>\n

waking and walking
\nin an underworld
\nfilled with black hats
\nand white queens
\nthey sometimes lie down
\nand conspire
\nto inspire
\na new storm<\/p>\n

and now
\na tuesday morning
\nthat feels like
\na monday morning
\nthat feels like
\nevery other morning<\/p>\n

i hold my tongue
\nand hear a distant drone
\nset to an idle speed
\nphoning home
\nas we
\ndrift about
\nscribbling scarce wisdom
\non used sheets of paper<\/p>\n

blunted by backward thought
\nvain romances are stalled
\nby baffled biology
\nand i am
\npossessed of an energy
\ncircular yet
\nincomplete
\nbowing and scraping toward
\na fifth nirvana<\/p>\n

what are we to do
\nwhen we are
\nbombarded by
\nthe same old
\ntiresome cues
\nwith limbs like lead
\nwe amuse and confuse (ourselves)
\nlike grown children
\nrunning from a panoramic curfew<\/p>\n

i remember standing on my front porch
\nstaring at traffic and thinking
\nall this life
\nreally is
\nnothing but a fevered dream<\/p>\n

the foundation eventually crumbles
\nand no one loves an artist
\nbut at least we can
\nthank the gods for the sun,
\nfor autumn mists that conceal
\nmagic among minds almost broken,
\nand for leaves that always change their color
\nbefore they fall<\/p>\n

structure is of no consequence
\nas sex and death
\nare pored from the same bottle
\nas curiosity and virtue<\/p>\n

a man gets used to a certain amount of pain
\nbut it\u2019s the feeling of stagnation
\nof how, everyday is exactly the same
\nthat\u2019s the insanity
\nthat\u2019ll finally do him in<\/p>\n

so, be different
\nevolve daily with the wind
\nand let us pray that the finish line
\nis not empty<\/p>\n
