i feel them moving in
\nsomething has changed
\nover the past 6 months
\nand now
\nas normalcy begins to set in
\ni feel their eyes upon me
\npacing within bound circles
\nthey are
\nlicking their lips
\nand rubbing their palms together
\nin bleak anticipation
\nthey feel the approach
\nof eventual retreat
\nand of decay<\/p>\n

you almost never see them coming
\nthey live in the background
\nin a world of
\ntired stories
\nand missed adventures
\na world where
\ncreativity gives way
\nto acceptance
\nthey are regulators
\ntepid disintegrators
\nseeking to edit us
\nout of existence<\/p>\n

words rubbed together fruitlessly
\nlike wet sticks in desperation
\nthat\u2019s what this poem is
\nan attempt to keep them at bay
\nfor at least
\none more day<\/p>\n

some men refuse to die
\nwhile others
\nrefuse to live<\/p>\n

what secrets remain unspoken
\ngod damn the number 7
\nthe dream lies far beyond the horizon
\nand it\u2019s hidden within someone else\u2019s heart<\/p>\n

i once told my kid
\n\u201cyou should learn the meanings of words,
\nand how to use them.
\nit\u2019s becoming a lost art.\u201d<\/p>\n

words are my only weapon now
\nand on mornings like this
\nthey are failing me<\/p>\n
