hung over
\nfor real today
\nthe invention of alcohol by man
\nwas both a blessing and a curse
\nthank the gods for
\nthe black and white kitten
\nresting softly with caffeine and nicotine
\non my shaky hand<\/p>\n

drunk sleep is such an
\nincomplete equation
\nstirred and risen
\nat the strangest of times<\/p>\n

i lost my car
\nand crossed the tracks
\nat a dangerous moment
\nas
\ndreams of
\npast loves
\nfailed memories
\nhippy festivals
\nlong walks
\nand abandonment
\nvisited me in the night<\/p>\n

the subconscious mind is so hard to define
\nand
\nbeasts lie still in the center<\/p>\n

i don\u2019t feel quite as bad as i should
\nthe cats are quite this morning
\nbut the street is loud
\nand the crickets are still humming
\nlike broken alarm clocks<\/p>\n

i\u2019m hungry
\nyet i\u2019m
\ntoo lazy
\nto cook an egg<\/p>\n

square and
\nrunning on empty
\ni\u2019m feeling inconsequential
\nonce again<\/p>\n

i\u2019m still floating
\nin this forsaken dreamscape
\nand
\nthe stillness of this awkward moment
\npenetrates my mind
\nlike midnight stilettos
\nscraping through warm meat<\/p>\n

for one brief instant
\ni am
\nsomewhere else
\na place where
\nwe can lie in bed all day
\ndrinking, laughing, and fucking
\na place where war and poverty
\nare just abstract fictions<\/p>\n

but before long
\nthe mistress of modern life
\nreturns me to her solid embrace
\nand our chance for reverie
\nis somewhat diminished<\/p>\n

but whatever
\nno rush today
\nwork is miles away<\/p>\n

summer is almost over
\nand i\u2019ve done so little
\ni\u2019m a new england man
\nwithout a plan
\nand i\u2019m not ready for
\nwinter<\/p>\n

no worries though
\ncause at this moment
\ni almost feel like an artist
\ncalm
\nand at peace<\/p>\n
