I<\/p>\n

alarm clock remembrance
\nwith a sudden breath
\nhastily held in reserve
\nuneventful hangover
\nnot nearly as fun as
\na midnight bangover
\nwhy did i choose to consume
\nthat last glass of wine?
\ni suppose there were just
\ntoo many secrets to tell<\/p>\n

interrupted and baptized by a cold sweat
\nthis morning like so many others
\npossesses just enough
\ndrab discontent
\nto remain true
\nto a sad spirit
\ndistant and blue<\/p>\n

too early to judge the day
\nas pitted roads and
\nperpetual power lines
\nreveal no comfort
\nno reason to stay<\/p>\n

it\u2019s all fog
\nin the morning rush
\ni can barely read
\nthe surrounding signs
\nand i can\u2019t remember my pin number<\/p>\n

unrevised and
\ndisorganized
\ni\u2019m set to autopilot
\nwaiting for a sudden destination<\/p>\n

spring souls are sleeping late
\non a summer’s day
\nas red trees and purple dreams
\nwhistle through an impossible wilderness
\nand the lions of lacuna
\nhave come calling
\nfor slow death
\nand black morning coffee<\/p>\n

II<\/p>\n

i can ruminate and meditate
\nall i want
\nbut he never died
\nhe’s still there
\ncircling the middle of my mind
\nand he’s winning this war<\/p>\n

alone with no one of consequence
\ni\u2019ve misplaced my memories
\nand clouded visions are baiting my soul
\nit\u2019s a celebration of nothing
\nrevealing a path of crooked stones
\nthat spell words of uncertainty<\/p>\n

remember the fire
\nfinite responses spent
\nin an alcoholic frenzy
\nas grey skies bloom
\nsecond chances under a fascist moon<\/p>\n

too quick
\nand perhaps a little too
\nlovesick
\ni\u2019m waiting for the next moment
\nof bliss
\nyes yes, don’t fight it
\ngrant me just one kiss
\nas vampires and wolves
\nprowl the square temple<\/p>\n

seven stars
\ntraced upon the face of
\na blank landscape
\nreveal hesitation
\nand
\nsacred cards are lined up
\nlike smoked columns
\nwaiting to be scarred and forgotten<\/p>\n

how long before the lords of light
\nsentence me to obscurity?<\/p>\n

the owl is hidden
\nand i\u2019m
\nonly half a magician<\/p>\n

i’m not sure
\nif i’m crazy enough
\nto complete this shady ritual<\/p>\n
