5am isn\u2019t such a bad place to be
\nwherever you are
\nit\u2019s quiet here
\nmostly
\nexcept for the dog
\nand the birds<\/p>\n

out with the morning send-off
\nwe\u2019re always up early now
\ntoo much sleep
\nor maybe
\njust enough
\nespecially after another
\nendless night of drinking<\/p>\n

5 am is my time
\nno worries yet
\njust thought and
\nbackground noise
\nenclosed in
\nan eternal half bliss
\nas the coffee brews
\nit\u2019s five minute meditation
\nit\u2019s a good to time
\nto read poetry
\nbut not always
\nto write it<\/p>\n

my friend sent me his new book
\nhis poems are good
\nreal, honest
\nshort and to the point
\nno pretension, just emotion
\npowerful
\ni wish i could write like that<\/p>\n

i usually have
\nabout an hour
\nevery morning
\nto conjure up some
\nfoul form of imagery
\nmaieutic poetry<\/p>\n

on with the show
\nit\u2019s mutant psychiatry
\nwriting two poems at once
\nand trying to decide
\nwhich one will make the final cut
\nas the sounds of traffic
\ndrive in one ear
\nand out the other<\/p>\n

geometric felines
\nresting upon rough skin
\nare stirring me
\ntowards the zero hour<\/p>\n

unnamed and obscure headlines
\nspill across the screen
\nyet, i don\u2019t do well with deadlines
\nand who came up with that term anyway?
\nconstraints of time
\nwere never my thing<\/p>\n

i work slow
\nwriting is like
\nmaking love to a woman
\npreceded by a primal rhythm
\ni don\u2019t rush
\ni let it flow
\ni let it build up
\ni ration the passion
\nappreciation of every detail<\/p>\n

falling from one moment
\ninto the next
\nit\u2019s flirtation
\nadaptation
\ninformal ecstasy
\nin anticipation
\nof creation
\na god like climax
\nof the perfect line<\/p>\n
