of crickets is<br \/>\na deafening and delightful chorus,<br \/>\na notorious midnight symphony<br \/>\nof natural destruction<br \/>\nsuch a comforting contrast<br \/>\nto the morning bird songs<br \/>\nof elusive creation<\/p>\n<p>at this hour<br \/>\ntraffic swells<br \/>\nbending to the permissions<br \/>\nof pirates and thrill seekers<br \/>\nand<br \/>\nhere come the road cats<br \/>\na cast of uncertain creatures<br \/>\nmarching in a hypnotic rhythm<br \/>\nof anarchic unity<br \/>\nup and down open ended alleys<br \/>\nand blessed with the illumination<br \/>\nof no purpose<\/p>\n<p>we watched the clouds roll in<br \/>\nalong avenues of deceit<br \/>\nplaying cards with<br \/>\nunfamiliar super heroes<br \/>\nand drinking wine with the ghosts<br \/>\nof failed generations past<\/p>\n<p>who is the caretaker now<br \/>\nwho will take charge<br \/>\nnow that all the leaders are dead?<\/p>\n<p>the mailbox was full of old clothes<br \/>\nand covered with ice<br \/>\nwe stood there naked and teeming<br \/>\nwith unmet needs<br \/>\ndaydreaming<br \/>\nabout how to complete<br \/>\nthis complicated quest<\/p>\n<p>in the distance<br \/>\ni heard the cacophony of<br \/>\nundiscovered stars,<br \/>\nmartyrs<br \/>\nin reservoir bars<br \/>\npreaching a lament<br \/>\nof old lover\u2019s scars<\/p>\n<p>it was a long walk<br \/>\nup the hill<br \/>\nwith little rocks in our shoes<br \/>\nwe paused, renting a hole<br \/>\nin the side of the road<br \/>\nand we wept for<br \/>\nvillages of the dammed<\/p>\n<p>we were promised a new beginning<br \/>\none without women, wars, and weaknesses<br \/>\nbut the life rafts<br \/>\nhave all been cast overboard<br \/>\nand here we sit<br \/>\nwaiting patiently<br \/>\nfor this new destiny to arrive<\/p>\n<p>it\u2019s just another saturday night<br \/>\nas this spell casts a long shadow<br \/>\nin hopes of granting divine sight<br \/>\nunder dim love candlelight<br \/>\nscanning dark horizons for a<br \/>\nstripped and distant satellite<br \/>\nas parasite hosts seek to reignite<br \/>\nliterary limbs held still<br \/>\nby emotional frostbite<\/p>\n<p>we, you, me, us<br \/>\nsingular<br \/>\nthe one<br \/>\nincomplete<br \/>\nbittersweet<\/p>\n<p>sleep is a respite<br \/>\ni refuse to accept<br \/>\nand i know<br \/>\ntomorrow<br \/>\nwill never be the
