what are the songs that men sing
\nwhen the mind refuses to sleep<\/p>\n

sour beer wrapped in the blues
\nweek old bananas
\nand worn out leathery shoes<\/p>\n

saturday night
\nand the traffic is light
\nsome want to fight
\nbut i just take flight<\/p>\n

where have all the people gone
\ni hide in plain sight
\nfeeling like fate\u2019s pawn
\nwanting to fight
\nbut waiting for dawn<\/p>\n

my fingernails are black
\nand my stomach is craving a snack
\ni fell down the stairs today
\nand almost broke my back<\/p>\n

i\u2019m listening to ambient
\nand melodic tones
\nit helps relax the internal critic<\/p>\n

it\u2019s 10 pm and i\u2019m waiting
\nwaiting in vain
\ndrinking away pain
\nand hoping for rain<\/p>\n

every headlight is a
\nskipped heartbeat
\nand
\nfools expect the impossible<\/p>\n

i haven\u2019t even finished
\nmy cigarette or my beer
\nand i\u2019ve completely lost it<\/p>\n

but i keep going
\nbecause i like the sound
\nof my keyboard clicking<\/p>\n

i think this one
\nis coming to an end
\nbut maybe i\u2019ll write another
\nbefore bed<\/p>\n

i don\u2019t know
\nwhat i really hope to accomplish
\nwith all this senseless chatter
\nsuffice to say
\nthat poetry is a mild cure
\nfor anxiety intoxication and boredom<\/p>\n
