apocalypse on tiptoes
\nriding the storm quietly
\nas the sheep
\nsoft step and
\ncreep
\ntoward their inevitable end<\/p>\n

folks are all about
\nsocial justice
\nsocial\u00a0 media
\nand social engineering
\ni\u2019ve abandoned them
\nin favor of
\na flavor of
\nprotective isolation<\/p>\n

and these streets are only\u00a0 as empty
\nas that loose thread
\nplucked from my head
\ni am
\nback from the dead
\nsudden dread
\nwhich, in a fit of rage
\nwas put to bed<\/p>\n

mingled with a sleepless endurance
\nthis change happens slowly
\nin an alternating fashion
\nproducing an active copy
\nright under your nose
\nhosed
\ni simply walked away
\nyet
\nit\u2019s not easy to forget
\nall the lives
\nand lies
\nthat lured us here<\/p>\n

next came the interruption
\nor was it intervention?<\/p>\n

this calamity is always un-calculated<\/p>\n

how many mornings have i sat here
\nslouched at this keyboard
\nbathed in grey wallpaper glow
\naimlessly staring out this window?<\/p>\n

ten years or two
\nit doesn\u2019t matter when your blue
\naddicted, adjusted
\nand askew<\/p>\n

with a passive sigh
\nthis creeping realization
\nof time and mortality
\nhas me stumped
\nmy high card is trumped
\nunsuitable for consumption
\nand dumped
\ni\u2019ve lost sight of the starting line<\/p>\n

there are no easy answers
\nto the eternal question
\nand this defiant indifference
\nthreatens to shatter
\nthe delicate balance of sanity
\nthat we\u2019ve so carelessly created<\/p>\n

middle age
\ncan eat a big bag of dicks<\/p>\n
