i dreamt of you last night
\ni let it sit
\nfor a bit
\nout of sight<\/p>\n

and here we are
\nwith suspicion and
\nsuperstition<\/p>\n

sacred and sadistic
\nsailing single
\non a saturday night<\/p>\n

as two fires burn
\none in the wood stove
\nand the other
\nin the mind<\/p>\n

heat
\ndull vision
\nbeat
\ndown to the bone<\/p>\n

salvation in the sanatorium
\nas satan sits silently
\na silhouette
\nlistening to
\na heart song
\nun-redeemed<\/p>\n

it\u2019s calling to me
\nand it’s all
\ncoming down<\/p>\n

spit
\nsplit
\nwash the dishes
\nand take a shit<\/p>\n

as the snow falls
\nand indifferent couples copulate
\nwith a distant fury<\/p>\n

as familiar enemies capitulate
\nand recede quietly into the background<\/p>\n

as strangers receive strange gifts<\/p>\n

as children become men
\nand men become (c)old<\/p>\n

they wait
\nwith a passive longing
\nfor the return of a
\nburning white
\nand blinding sunrise<\/p>\n

it\u2019s all sophistry
\non a satirical scale
\nmeasured by bloated bellies
\nand a simple form
\nof sectarian solace<\/p>\n

and too many of us are left alone
\nwaiting for impersonal communication
\nsome, strong and empty
\nothers,\u00a0 tired and weak
\nwe soldier on<\/p>\n

no ending<\/p>\n

at times like this
\neven the beer
\nbegins to taste
\na little stale<\/p>\n

solitary and unsolicted
\nwe are lit with simple
\nand soul-less sorcery
\nsome dreams are better
\nleft in sleep
\nwaiting for tomorrow
\nthe sun-day<\/p>\n
