sunrise
\ncoming off the high of
\npassion
\nand the night<\/p>\n

still somewhat juiced
\nand
\non the loose
\nhaphazardly working a
\ntruce
\nwith that other side of me<\/p>\n

it seems the odd years are always the hardest<\/p>\n

stopped dead at thrity-nine
\ni was
\nsitting on the toilet
\nthinking of
\nhow the world will end
\nand writing
\nhow it will bend
\nto my will<\/p>\n

disillusioned and bored<\/p>\n

because we are just
\nordinary men
\nalmost honest and
\nstumbling towards something more
\nas we beat the jungle drums
\none, two, three
\ncalling to the sun
\ni lost the one
\nand it ain\u2019t much fun
\nmarching
\nback to square one<\/p>\n

for you see
\nthe storyteller
\nlives in brief moments
\ncontinuous
\nobscured
\nand always far off
\nrecounting former glory
\nto impress young women<\/p>\n

so now it\u2019s sundown
\nat the proselytizing palace
\nwith subtle surveillance
\nand no surrender
\nwe are caught in this
\ncollective hallucination
\nwith media streaming
\ndirectly to the brain
\nas the tv spews forth it’s
\ntechnotronic bile<\/p>\n

the man sits in roguish fashion
\ncentered and quietly imploring\u00a0the masses
\nto destroy all their idols<\/p>\n

no soul and no solution<\/p>\n

so here i sit
\nhunched and unfit
\nwith two purring cats
\ncrammed in my lap
\nseeking to remind me
\nof the trap
\nset in motion everyday
\nas the minutes and faces overlap<\/p>\n

flash forward<\/p>\n

no typewriter
\nand no computer
\njust electric handwriting
\nholding your breath till
\nwords or ecstasy
\ncome rushing in
\nit\u2019s all nonsense at this hour<\/p>\n

and what comes next?<\/p>\n

they always say
\nmaybe another time
\nit\u2019s a protracted fascination
\nbut this odd rhyme
\nis just a symptom
\nof a foreign and passive crime<\/p>\n

tainted
\nwith a new perspective
\nwill you forget and forgive
\nit\u2019s time to clean up this mess<\/p>\n
